    “Y” bridge OA583 – Gasperich

It is intended to provide a link between Gasperich and Howald over the A3 motorway. Its construction is a further step towards the realisation of the third tramway section from the main station to the Cloche d’Or.

A 6 m wide strip reserved for cyclists and pedestrians allows traffic to flow between the future technical college and the Howald interchange. The rest of the deck is reserved for tram traffic on 2 lanes.

The structure is a 100 m long reinforced concrete bridge (without expansion joints or support structures) with a central span of 57 m above the motorway. Its slenderness is particularly important since the thickness of the structure in its centre is only 30 cm. It is its end spans, buried, founded on piles and weighted, that allow the crossing of the motorway.

Its complex geometry required complete 3D modelling to obtain the desired shape: extrusion of an ellipse on the underside, branch of the Y to join the future high school, slope of the structure in relation to the motorway axis.

The railing consists of a handrail supported every 5 metres by uprights made of flat steel. An expanded metal panel finishes off the railing, giving the whole a high degree of transparency. Particular attention is paid to the quality of the exposed concrete facings. The formwork is treated with a varnish over its entire surface so that the joints between panels are invisible. The concreting work is reduced to a strict minimum. Thus, the sloping edges and the lower slab will each be concreted in a single phase without any re-concrete.
