The Passerelle des Arts, located on Luxembourg’s Kirchberg Plateau, has been recognized as one of the winners of the Luxembourg Architecture Award 2026 in the “Building with Accuracy” category (Réaliser avec justesse). This distinction recognises projects where architectural quality is achieved through precise, durable and context-sensitive engineering solutions.
Designed by Marc Mimram – Fabeck Architectes, with bureau greisch as a structural engineering consultant, the footbridge connects John F. Kennedy Avenue with the Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art (Mudam). It is located within the Trois Glands woodland, a site of significant landscape and heritage value.
Approximately 87 meters long, the bridge follows a curved alignment both in plan and in elevation. This geometry was carefully developed to preserve as many existing trees as possible while providing a smooth and comfortable route for pedestrians and cyclists. The structure consists of a continuous stainless steel box girder with variable depth, serving both as the load-bearing system and as the bridge’s architectural expression.
The use of stainless steel meets durability and performance requirements for an outdoor environment. The external faces feature a mirror-polished finish, allowing the bridge to blend into the forest canopy by reflecting the surrounding vegetation. Achieving this architectural concept required a dedicated design approach that minimized visible site welds. Extensive off-site prefabrication ensured the high-quality finish of the polished surfaces.
The curved glass parapets incorporate a bird-collision protection film, while the stainless steel handrail integrates discreet LED lighting designed to minimize light pollution within the woodland environment.
This award highlights the success of the close collaboration between the client, architects, engineers and contractors, whose structural solutions, material choices and assembly methods were carefully developed to address the site’s technical, environmental and landscape constraints with precision.
