Europengineers Design Sprint: Exploring Parametric Design

    From June 12 to 15, bureau greisch had the pleasure of hosting an interdisciplinary design sprint in Liège, organized as part of the Europengineers network, of which we are an active member. This event brought together several young engineers from the network for a session focused on innovation, collaboration, and experimentation.

    A Clear Objective: Exploring the Potential of Parametric Tools

    The design sprint aimed to investigate how parametric design tools, such as Grasshopper, can support the early stages of architectural and structural design. Participants were invited to:

    • Explore parametric design strategies for building projects;
    • Test the integration of environmental, structural, and performance-related data into early design decisions;
    • Code the collective reflection
    • Generate and compare multiple design options based on predefined constraints.

    Teams, composed of professionals from various disciplines, engaged in a shared reflection on design logic, the definition of parameters, relevant criteria, and possible solutions. This approach highlighted the value of parametric thinking as a catalyst for informed decision-making early in the design process.

    Immersion in Liège’s Architectural Heritage and Projects

    The sprint program was enriched by visits to several landmark projects in Liège, allowing participants to anchor their reflections in real-world contexts:

    • The majestic Liège-Guillemins railway station, one of our emblematic projects;
    • The restoration of the Montefiore Institute, a project combining heritage conservation and technical rehabilitation;
    • The extension of the Haute École Charlemagne, a large-scale project for higher education facilities.

    A Spirit of Collaboration and Conviviality

    Beyond the workshops, the event was also an opportunity to strengthen professional and personal ties through several convivial moments. Shared meals, informal discussions, and cultural discoveries punctuated the week, reinforcing the team spirit within the Europengineers network.

    Greisch is proud to have hosted this initiative and to actively contribute to the momentum of the Europengineers network, convinced that sharing expertise and collective experimentation drive innovation in our fields.
