The replacement of Kain dam is part of the European project “Seine-Scheldt East” which includes the upgrade of the Upper Scheldt and the Walloon waterways backbone to the 2000 ton navigation.
The work involves the making of a new dam with a fall of 1.65 m, with two sluice 12 m wide, for the replacement of the existing dam from 1920.
The latter will be demolished and replaced by a fish ladder and a reservation for a hydroelectric plant.
The new dam is built in own site, the new channel requires significant earthworks, while ensuring the functioning of the old dam.
The first phase of earthworks is now completed and the concreting of the new ground plate is ongoing.
Bureau Greisch ensures the execution studies.
