Saint-Nicolas bridge in Revin

Urban bridge across the Meuse river, replacing a single-lane bridge which is furthermore an obstacle for the flow when there are floods.

The steeldeck (900 tons) with an orthotropic deck is 128 m long in all, divided in two spans of 92 m and 36 m. The intermediate pile is located outside the minor bed of the river and the bridgehead of the small span acts as a counterweight for the main span. The deck thickness ranges from 1,8 m on the bridgeheads to 3,0 m on the central pile.

The overall width of 15,5 m is composed of two traffic lanes, two sidewalks and one bi-directional bicycle lane. The plate is supported by the box-girder and, on each side, by steel knee braces with constant slope.

The traffic on the existing bridge has to be maintained during the building. That is why the new deck will first be assembled upstream and only then be positioned by launching and rotations.
