Restoration of the Bois-du-Luc headframe and roofs
Health status and feasibility studies for the restoration of the headframe and roofs at the Bois-du-Luc mine site.
Representing Wallonia’s industrial know-how and heritage, the site has been classified as Wallonia’s exceptional heritage since 1996 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012 as one of the ‘4 major mining sites in Wallonia (Bois-du-Luc, Bois du Cazier, Grand-Hornu, Blegny-Mine)’.
In order to carry out this stability study, a series of surveys were carried out (visual, nacelle, rope access operator) as well as several analyses of the materials (steel, paint). Historical documents were also researched. A list of elements to be replaced, reinforced or treated was then drawn up. Discreet reinforcement details were proposed where necessary.
