Cover of the Jose Alvalade XXI stadium
New stadium built for Euro 2004 to comply with UEFA requirements: construction of stands to accommodate 52,000 spectators, and a 25,400 m² roof.
The structure and the steps are in reinforced concrete.
The roof is supported on the exterior facades of the stadium and, inside, suspended from 4 metal masts with a height of
60 m.
The metal structure consists of lattice beams arranged on the one hand radially and on the other hand circumferentially. At the inner end of the roof, a walkway goes around to give access to sound and lighting equipment. It is also used to compensate for wind-induced lifting effects.
