Fourth European school in Brussels
Construction of a new European primary and secondary school (2,800 students).
The school is located on the site of a former army barracks. The complex comprises ten renovated and seven new buildings, together occupying a surface area of 70,000 m².
The entire stability studies were shared on a building-by-building basis between Bgroup-Greisch and another Brussels-based company united in a temporary partnership.
Bgroup-Greisch was responsible for the full study of the main building, which comprises a large exposed-concrete framework, pre-stressed with post-tensioned steel, affording space for the school refectory and a play area. This 113 m by 24 m framework, with a height of 10 m, rests on ‘randomly’ placed pillars and is 12 m above the basement.
The underground area of this building includes three large areas that are set up as sport halls (of 310 m² each). To that end, the main structure has 14 m span widths.
