Fourth bridge on the Panama Canal
Panama’s Ministry of public works has decided to build a fourth bridge over the Panama Canal to relieve the overloaded Americans bridge. Il reliera Panama City et Panama Ouest. Initially planned to allow the metro and road traffic to cross, only the latter is considered in the final version of the project.
The 965 m long main bridge is cable-stayed, with a central span of 485 m and rear spans of 240 m. Access viaducts and interchanges are also part of this major project. The mixed deck is made up of two steel beams and a concrete slab. It supports three lanes of traffic in each direction, as well as two side pavements, for a total width of almost 37m. The H-shaped concrete pylons are 184 m high.
Bureau greisch is responsible for the value engineering of the cable-stayed bridge, for checking the in-service studies (including under the effects of earthquakes and turbulent wind) and also for the studies and verifications of the various assembly phases.
