CERIA Campus – School complex with sports hall

The project (total surface area of 18,500 m²) consists of the construction of a secondary school on the CERIA campus in Anderlecht.
    This includes:

    • the construction of 2 new classroom and office buildings, one of 3 floors (the DOA building), the other of 6 (the D23 building), with sports halls whose roofs are made of metal frames,
    • the construction of a new refectory with a wooden roof,
    • the renovation of a sports hall.

The main building material used for the shell is concrete, with the addition of wood and steel structures.
Most of the structural elements remain visible or are only painted. Some concretes have the particularity of being stained in ochre colour.
The main beams of the sports hall roofs are large elements (+/- 25 m) that must be carried and installed in one piece along their entire length. The proximity of the canal makes it possible to envisage river transport to the immediate area of the site.
The emergency staircase in the DOA building is a metal sculpture staircase resting on a totem pole embedded in the foot of the building.
Load-deflecting structures have been designed on the first floor of the D23 building to allow the removal of columns and thus free up as much space as possible on the ground floor and as a courtyard.
The two main buildings are based on a system of screw piles and balancing beams. As the loads of the refectory are much lower, this building is founded via strip footing.
