Bridge and access roads to MontLegia hospital in Liege

As part of the construction of a new hospital for the CHC, a motorway interchange is being created.

Indeed, the CHC has decided to combine its facilities at Montegnée (Espérance), Rocourt (Saint-Vincent) and Ans (Saint-Joseph) into a single large hospital. The new hospital is located on the site of the former collieries at Glain and is known as the MontLégia clinic.

Access to the hospital from the A602 motorway is essential to contain traffic flows. An interchange and a bridge were therefore built. The bridge designed by bureau greisch is a prefabricated pre-stressed concrete girder bridge. It comprises two 33 m spans, each made up of 18 girders (for a total width of 11 m).

The variable inertia beams are prestressed by pre-tensioning to support their own weight, while longitudinal and transverse post-tensioning is applied on site to withstand traffic overloads. The special feature of this structure is that the decking slab is constructed from the upper footings of the transversely prestressed beams. There is no added slab, which greatly speeds up on-site construction time.
