Brussels – renovation of Reyers tunnel E40-Meiser

Since the end of January, the Reyers tunnel from the E40 to Meiser has been closed for heavy renovation work. Following the demolition of the viaduct in 2015, four tunnels will be rehabilitated as part of the redevelopment of the Reyers road junction into an urban boulevard.

The E40-Meiser link opens the door to renovations; due to problems of concrete degradation, the roof slab will be demolished and rebuilt. The demolition phase has started, and will be followed by work in the other three tunnels, zone by zone, so as to minimise the disturbance of surface traffic.

In the context of a Design & Build contact awarded to BAM Contractors – De Meuter, bureau Greisch was initially entrusted with the stability study. Today, his team is also in charge of dimensioning the shell, including the demolition phases.

The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
