Restoration of the church in Temploux

Restoration of the church in Temploux

The church of Saint-Hilaire is a 16th-century Gothic building, preceded by a square Romanesque tower topped by a 17th-cen-tury slate steeple. A 20th-century staircase turret is attached to its left. Originally with three naves, the building had five in 1910. The three-sided chancel, preceded by a straight span and a pseudo-transept opening onto older arcades, as well as the triumphal arch, date from the first half of the 16th century.

The building has been listed as a monument (tower, choir and transept) since 18 June 1946.

Our mission consisted of the complete restoration of the frames of the entire building and the restoration of the masonry of the tower.

The spire of the bell tower was significantly out of true following the sagging of parts damaged by damp. The restoration of the various frames required major repair straightening work using hydraulic jacks, replacement and consolidation. The upper part of the bell tower was restored in a workshop and re-erected by crane.

Numerous stones have been replaced or pinned; cracked corners have been detected and the masonry has been repaired.
