Oosterweel connection in Antwerp

The ring-road around Antwerp has to be completed with a direct connection between E19 in the north and E17 in the south, to facilitate international transit.

The studies of this version of the project were conducted until the establishment of the request file of planning permission.

Composed of a multitude of civil works of which a tunnel under the Scheldt, this connection will especially give birth to the Lange Wapper, a curved cable-stayed bridge consisting out of 2 motorway levels and of a main span of 603 m, situated at right bank of the Scheldt.

The project was officially awarded on December 22, 2006.
