The extension of the EIB headquarters is located on the Kirchberg plateau and contains three underground parking levels (485 parking spaces) and ten levels of offices.

This building is particular for it doesn’t have any expansion joints though its largest dimension is 150 m. Therefore, large restraining efforts lead to a lot of stress in every constituent part (columns, walls, cores, floors).

The interior structure, made up of visible concrete, mostly comprises mushroom floors. The curved, composite columns along the edges are used to support simultaneously the floors and the large glazed roof that wraps the building.

The total floor space of the various levels amounts to 72,000 m² and the surface area of the glazed roof is 15,000 m².
