Chartres railway station
Design and construction of a pedestrian bridge

Designed by the architects Lavigne & Chéron, this new 70-metre-long link crosses the railway tracks at Chartres station and provides direct access to the platforms via the “estacade”, a covered platform adjacent to the footbridge. This work also makes it possible to recreate a strong urban link between the communes of Chartres and Mainvilliers.

To limit the inconvenience caused to users of the quays, numerous sections of prefabricated concrete were used for the construction of the piers and abutments of the structure.

The footbridge, consisting of a metal box assembled in the workshops of Techno Métal Industrie in Andenne (Belgium), was hoisted in one piece over the railway tracks. The “estacade” next to the footbridge was then also crane-mounted in one piece, before being covered with its glazing.

Bureau greisch carried out the execution studies for this project:

the piers and abutments of the footbridge and the monumental concrete staircase on behalf of Bouygues Travaux Publics,

the steel structure of the footbridge, the “estacade”, and the access stairs to the quays on behalf of Techno Métal Industrie.
