Constitution subway station: walls and roof slab built prior to excavation

Works on the Constitution metro project in Brussels (line 3), which includes the new Toots Thielemans station, are progressing rapidly.

This large-scale project, located in the former bed of the river Senne, is proceeding in a very special way… First of all, the walls and roof slab were built to create a watertight enclosure. Now that this phase of the work is almost complete, excavation under the slab can begin. By the end of the project, around 100,000m³ of earth will have been removed.

The bureau greisch is collaborating on the complete structural studies and the completion of the new station, which will serve the metro and tram lines, as well as the tunnels connecting to the existing infrastructure.
In particular, the project will transform the existing tram line, which runs north-south through the city, into an automatic metro line.
