‘Concrete award 2015’ for the radar tower on the island Neeltje Jans

The radar tower on the island of Neeltje Jans (NL), at the mouth of the Eastern Scheldt, received the ‘Concrete award 2015’ (Betonprijs 2015) in the category ‘Structural design’

This cylindrical concrete tower 110 m high and 5,9 m in diameter carries at its top a radar for monitoring of the maritime traffic.
Greisch office has determined the wind forces acting on the tower and optimized the shape of the railing at the top in order to minimize the vertical wind speeds on the radar.

    Architect: Quist Wintermans Architekten BV.
