Bridge Saint-Nicolas Urban bridge over the Meuse river, for the replacement of a single lane bridge, which is furthermore an obstacle to the flow of high waters.
The steeldeck (900 tons) with an orthotropic deck has a 128 m total length, divided in two spans of 92 m and 36 m. The intermediate pile lies outside the minor bed of the river, and the bridgehead of the small span acts as a counterweight for the main span. The deck thickness varies from 1,8 m on the bridgeheads to 3,0 m on the central pile.
The overall width of 15,5 m is composed of two road lanes, two sidewalks and one bi-directional cycle lane. The plate is supported by the boxgirder and on both sides by stainless steel knee braces with constant slope.
The traffic on the existing bridge has to be maintained during the works. So the new deck will first be assembled upstream. It will then be positioned by launching and rotation.
