Canalbridge

This bridge, 498 m long and 46 m wide, allows the canal du Centre to overbridge the valley of Thiriau du Sart and a major intersection (N55 et N535) at the entrance of La Louvière. It is a post-tensioned concrete bridge. The cross section has 2 inclined sidewalls that support the transerval girders with a shape of fish belly. They support the bottomplate every 4.50 m and 4.20 m of watercharge.
The longitudinal and transversal post-tensioning assures bidirectional compression of the concrete in touch with the wet section.
The work is founded on circular piles every 36 m, that bring the important loads to a ground of pour quality.
Special arrangements were needed to manage the expected settlements.
The deck has a total weight of 65 000 tons and was progressively launched into place (world record).
