Bridge of Grande Ravine - on the island Réunion This bridge is part of the new road ‘route des Tamarins’, 2 x 2 lanes, that aims to reduce the traffic on the road along the west coast of the island.
This bridge 288 m long crosses a 160 m deep breach.
The deck made of orthotropic steel plates lies on two counters of prestressed concrete, inclined with 20°.
The counters are restraint in the abutments and their summits are holded by cables located in the deck.
They are constructed with the cantilever method. The abutments works as counterweights. The two halves of the deck are pushed from each bank and fi xed at the middle of the bridge.
