A contractor has been designated for the construction works of the railway viaduct on the Sado river (PT). After the preliminary design and the tender documents studies (news dated 12/08/2005), the engineering office greisch goes on with the execution studies, along with the portugese engineering office GRID.  Two approach viaducts, 1115 and 1140 m long, lead to a central bow-string structure made of three continuous spans crossing the 480 m wide river. The particularities of the bridge are the hexagonal cross-section of the arches and the structural continuity of the deck between the three spans. Located in a highly seismic area, the bearings are fitted with devices allowing the transmission of longitudinal efforts.
