Waste containment involves the construction and management of public rubbish tips, sanitary landfill sites and dredging sludge collection centres, and also the rehabilitation of disused tips and other sites.

Such works require the mechanical and chemical investigation of soils, rubbish and water, the design of specific tanking and drainage works, the management of leachates and methane release and also the provision of instrumentation and the monitoring of any major settlement of the site itself.
